Please pick a date and sign up your name. It is easy, just make the
coffee, set out the cups and run the dishes through at the end.

Fair Trade Coffee
The UCW have purchased "Fair Trade" coffee to serve at all church functions, including Sunday morning coffee hour. We have tried several types over the past few Sundays (did you notice any difference?) and have settled on "Cafe San Miguel Colombian" coffee from Level Ground Trading. The price is $41.00 for 2.2 kg (5 lbs).
Our change to Fair Trade coffee follows United Church principles, such as paying a fair wage to the farmers who grow the coffee and guaranteeing that there is no child labor involved, The buyers of "Fair Trade" pay an additional premium (about $.20 per kilo) to the producers co-op which goes towards education (for better farming practices as well as schooling for the children), health care, drinking water and what ever else is needed in the community. By using "Fair Trade" coffee you are standing by democratic principles of trade fairness and you're helping to strengthen self sufficiency in communities around the world. You're helping people thrive, not just survive. And you're getting a higher quality product to boot. Fair Trade coffee may be purchased under various brand names at Save On Foods (look in the organic section), Max's "Kicking Horse" coffee or in Kimberley, "Sprout's" has a wide variety of fair trade products including cocoa and chocolate bars.
Ministry and Personel
Another announcement from M and P: As many of you know, Charlotte Ternoway has been hired by the church as Music Director. Her duties entail coordination of all aspects of music (i.e. music selection, accompanists, special music presentations, administration of licensing). She is instrumental in organizing our "Coffee House Series" concerts and special music events. Charlotte would enjoy hearing your thoughts in this area. This is a part time position and involves working with Rhonda Pigott and Pat Townshend, our Choir Director. We are very pleased to have Charlotte join us in this capacity (and appreciate her hard work).
